Budget airlines are usually avoided nervous flyers who suspect that the companies cut corners on service. A recent video released by Wendover Productions explains how these airlines keep the costs low to ensure customers keep getting cheap prices.

One of the key secrets behind these companies' success is that they use cheap but good quality planes. eople the 9/11 attack, there was a struggle to sell Boeing 747s. The slump in the market meant that Ryanair were purchase a bulk of aircrafts for a good price. Which means that successful budget airlines often fly newer planes than the more expensive airlines. 

The two airlines also only fly one type of aircraft. Ryanair only fly 737s and EasyJet just use A320s. That means that the pilots, flight attendants, mechanics and ground staff only need to be trained on one plane, helping the companies to save time and money. The benefits are then passed on to the customers. The airlines don't offer more than the basics on board. While customers who appreciate their creature comforts won't give points for this, it helps to lower the costs. The flight attendants are tasked with fulfilling more than one role and clean the planes themselves. The lack of facilities means that maintenance is easier and saves time. Flight attendants on budget airlines are often at the beginning of their career but they are fully trained in safety. Since they fulfill a number of roles, there is no need for other staff roles. The company can thus reduce the cost of tickets and still maintain a profit margin. The airlines only go to certain airports. Budget airlines don't go to airports such as London Heathrow or Paris Charles De Gaulle because these airports are expensive. Only a certain amount of flights are allowed to fly to and from these airports, which means demand is high so landing fees soar and slots are regulated. Instead, budget airlines use less frequented airports, meaning their landing fees are low and there are a lot of slots available, so the airlines can make multiple journeys.
